After the World Cup final, Messi uploaded an Instagram photo from his official account showing him hoisting the coveted trophy. The photo quickly went viral and has amassed an incredible 56 million likes as of the time of writing.
Now, Lionel Messi has the record for the Instagram post with the most likes, surpassing the world record egg account. A single image of an uncracked egg was posted by an account back in January 2019 as part of an innovative social media experiment.

The egg image was on top of Instagram when Cristiano Ronaldo threatened to knock it off with a famous photo of him and Lionel Messi playing chess in a Louis Vuitton commercial. 42 million people liked that message, but Messi swiftly outperformed it.
Following Argentina's World Cup victory on Sunday, Messi immediately topped his football opponent, who had received 42 million likes on that tweet.
And he has now dethroned the image of an egg from the top spot as the most-liked upload in Instagram history with 56 million people expressing their gratitude for the post. Some of Messi's supporters had infiltrated the egg post, pleading with readers to untick the "like" button in order to support the Argentine hero.
