Barcelona destabilizes Real Madrid in the race to claim the Supercopa de Espana

Barcelona has won the Supercopa de Espana a record-breaking 14 times. On Sunday night in Saudi Arabia, Real Madrid was humiliated by the Catalans in the championship game. Los Blancos, if anything, were flattered by the easy 3-1 victory.

The game's MVP was Gavi, who opened the scoring and then provided assists to Robert Lewandowski and Pedri to further inflict harm on Los Blancos. But the Catalans were a different animal, and the Spanish champs could never compete with them.

Real Madrid got out to a slow start, and Barcelona immediately stood out as the superior team. In the opening exchanges, Lewandowski twice came close, but Thibaut Courtois and the post stopped him. The only serious chance of the half came from the other end, as Karim Benzema's header was blocked.

Youngster Gavi gave Barcelona the lead with a fantastic finish following a quick, deadly move by the Blaugrana. As a result of Ferland Mendy's careless turnover, Barcelona moved the ball smoothly until Gavi broke through and beat Courtois with a goal.

Little more than a minute later, Lewandowski scored his first Clasico goal. He was perfectly found in front of goal, making his finish a little simpler than Gavi's. He finished by tapping in from very close range.

Real Madrid's ability to come back from two goals behind was never going to be easy, but the second half began with Barcelona maintaining their lead from the first.

While Gavi continued to plan everything that happened for Barcelona, Carlo Ancelotti's team significantly fell short. Gavi provided his second assist of the evening to enable Pedri to score the third goal after scoring and assisting in the first half. Once more, Gavi was excellent in the buildup, and the Catalans' big cushion was in great part due to the teenager, against whom Real Madrid had no answer.

Benzema added a late consolation goal.

Due to his direct involvement in each of Barcelona's three goals and his role in helping Xavi win his first trophy as manager of the Camp Nou, Gavi was undoubtedly the focus of attention on the evening.

With his first goal, he set a record for the youngest Supercopa de Espana goal scorer ever. He then superbly and with maturity far beyond his years assisted two goals. It served as another another illustration of how promising his future is.
