President Tinubu emerges new ECOWAS chairman.



President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been appointed as the latest Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).


On his appointment this Sunday in Guinea-Bissau, he emphasized, "We will take democracy seriously, Democracy is very tough but it is the best form of government."


Tinubu succeeds President Umaro Embalo of Guinea Bissau in the role of ECOWAS chair. His appointment was made public at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS. This summit was President Tinubu's first official duty within Africa since his inauguration on May 29, 2023.
